Big day of used records

Had a great day of adding used records to the website today.

I have been digging deep into the vaults lately and adding records from across all the genres. Collections that were purchased almost 10 years ago are getting added to the site. I'm making it my goal to have every single record and CD listed for sale in the next 12 months. This should bring the inventory to over 35,000.

Anyone out there who also does this for a living will understand and appreciate how it can be a never ending battle. Once everything is added, the products that were added many years ago now require updating. Some of the more rare records naturally increase in value as they become more scarce and some decrease due to changing trends.

Every day i receive at least one sale through one of the platforms that was priced years ago and now is seriously underpriced compared to the others for sale around it. This never bothers me as i like the concept that if people dig, in the same way that they do in physical record shops, they will find a cheeky gem at a bargain price that the shop owner has missed. I do this myself when i visit shops around the world. I roll my sleeves up and get down and dirty under the racks, looking for the forgotten boxes.

Sadly shops like this are getting harder to find as even the charity shops these days have gotten wise to the price of vinyl.

This lovely and very rare white vinyl 10" single from Prince was one of my personal favourite finds of the day. Graded at a conservative VERY GOOD condition. Its not cheap, but i've nestled it price wise in between the other 2 UK copies for sale. It possibly won't be a fast seller, but with cool, rare and quirky records that doesn't bother me.

Elsewhere on the Used category there's a ton of funk & soul, obscure rock, late 90's trance and truckloads of house added. Stacks of bargains as well.

I'm keeping this little advert below for the Music Exchange Scheme pinned to the bottom for a while as i'm gradually developing that side of things alongside Belfast Underground. The WhatsApp link goes straight through to me, but please be advised that this is purely a text number.

Until tomorrow folks, have a lovely evening.

MUSIC & MEDIA EXCHANGE SCHEME

TURN THE RECORDS THAT YOU DON’T USE ANYMORE INTO CASH OR EXCHANGE THEM FOR FRESH VINYL THAT YOU WILL USE.

WE believe that lurking in everyone’s attic / roof space is a dusty old box of vinyl records or at the bottom of your shelves there’s a ton of records that you bought years ago and your taste may have changed and you no longer like.

We buy and trade those records that you may have grown out of or have double copies of. These unloved pieces of plastic could be generating serious cash for you and offering a well needed financial boost on the lead up to Christmas.

Cash is paid on the spot for records of ALL styles OR an exchange rate of 1.5 times the amount is offered

FOR EXAMPLE

If we value your collection at £100. We offer you a choice of either £100 in cash OR £150 in store credit to use either in-store or online. This credit option is particularly useful if you want to refresh your collection.

Get in contact with details of any records, CDs, instruments, equipment that you wish to offload..

Just another manic Monday

Today was one of those days that went past in the blink of an eye. I managed to 90% fix the small glitch on the website with the replacement of some code that I received from a developer.

Added some lovely new titles to the website. Some great deep, dubby techno and a few big tribal techno monsters.

AND

Got some very limited reissues of the out & out classic, Mental Cube, “Q” These are seriously scarce. An absolutely stunning record.

This was just a quick tester post to check how this will work. I think it gives more scope to add more proper content of all kinds. facebook posts are limited in what they can show.

Shane MacGowan passes away

Lots of seriously tasty new music added to the shop this week.

New titles and re-stocks from Toolroom Records, Green Velvet & Adam Beyer, SLD (classic 90’s piano) Shadow Child, Camelphat, Moby.

As predicted after the long winded rant about our website issue yesterday, we immediately lost 5 members from the Facebook page broadcast group within an hour. BUT on the other side of the coin, we then gained an extra 12 members, taking the total to 346.

Some light hearted troll actually commented on one of our TikTok videos recently calling Dilly a ‘Super Long Winded Irish Guy’. We do have a habit of stretching things out sometimes that could be said in just a few words.

The website issue is still not rectified. We are now on with some experts now. It still functions perfectly and orders are coming through, it’s just a niggling little issue with one page.

So, another legend has left us! Poor Shane MacGowan has transferred over to the great punk gig in the sky. It didn’t take long for people to jump on the Pogues catalogue of music. Within an hour of his passing I had an email from one of the main distributors of their records trying to seize the moment and shift a ton of stock, and within 3 hours of his passing all my Pogues records had been snapped up by collectors. Unlike other sellers I don't jump in and double my prices when someone dies, I find that a little bit insensitive and exploitative.

May he rest in peace.

Well, that’s slightly shorter than yesterday's post. Have a lovely evening beautiful people.

Facebook broadcast list

So, I set up a Facebook Broadcast group and Wow, received 287 members joining up in the first 24 hours. LOVE IT!! Thank you so much you beautiful people ❤️

I have absolutely no idea how these lists work so I’m going to be tweaking it a little bit over the coming days.
Apparently there are polls which would allow for interaction, will look more deeply into it.

I’m going to limit these messages to one a day as I think any more and it will seriously encourage a lot of you to mute the message notifications.

I’ve been seriously considering getting back into Facebook paid advertising to reach out to those who may not know about Belfast Underground. I got decent results from it when used previously. The beauty of FB and Google paid ads is that you can set your own daily budget and as you see results you can increase the spend.

Anyone with a Facebook business page will appreciate the fact that when you post something that appears to be sales related, the algorithm shows your post to less than 1% of your followers. I totally get the logic here as Facebook are very much about creating engagement between people.

Anyhow, I’m cautious of getting all ranty on these broadcasts but at the same time want to offer a little bit of insight into my day to day behind the scenes workings of a record shop and how may very overactive brain works.

Highlight of yesterday musically, was sent a stunning new remix of one of my favourite ever SADE songs, a song that always stirs emotions inside me.
It’s gonna be coming on Vinyl next year and I’ll share the audio snippet with you soon (when I’m allowed ????)

Anyhow, enough for today. I’ve already had to delete a ton of stuff from this. Don’t want to puke you all to death in the first few days ????

If you need any help or advice with anything, drop me a message via the BU page or my own personal page, or via
The WhatsApp link on the page.

A handy tip for travelling record shop crate diggers

A very useful little tip for all you travelling crate diggers out there.

We are all well aware of just how awkward certain airlines can be when returning home with large amounts of extra baggage. Some of the fees that get added can be crazy, especially for heavy items such as the beloved vinyl records.

When you go to a different city to buy records and there’s plane travel involved, our advice is to print off a pre paid UPS or Royal Mail shipping label before you go, allowing for up to 10kg, grab a box from a shop (they all have them) and post them back to yourself on a slow service (£10 max) Thus rendering your hands free and shoulders in tact for sight seeing and supping pints. You also don’t have the airport size & weight headache.

This works on so many levels.
