AVA Castle Party is back again this Saturday, 14th September and are ready to close out an excellent summer in proper style. This time the guys are bringing a very special crew of Boiler Room, Brame & Hamo, GiGi FM, Twitch Belfast+ more.

Korova presents: Simple Symmetry

Saturday September 14th, the Korova guys bring Simply Symmetry (Disco Halal / Multi Culti / Correspondant) to The Menagerie for their Irish debut.

The family duo Simple Symmetry have been bringing a noteworthy level of electronic mysticism to Moscow’s emerging dance music scene. Born and raised in the Russian capital, brothers Sasha and Sergey Lipsky’s consistently lock down and develop their ascetic and psychedelic style with a method of melodic expression that is all their own.

Also featuring on the night, Korova resident, Syrag, on support.

Stereo Does Disco, Thompsons

The Stereo Sessionscrew take on a disco twist this Saturday at the legendary Belfast venue with local heroes Hijaxxand Ubblahkanjoining forces in the club to serve up uplifting vocal & funkified House tracks with classic and contemporary Disco cuts. Belfast’s B-Sidecrew make their Stereo Sessions debut, dropping deep beats on the Thompsons Terrace!

Space Presents Scott Bond

Legendary Belfast club night Space returns after near 20 years. This Saturday the original team drop into the Palm House with Gatecrasher hero Scott Bond, Cool FM’s Mark Wesley and not forgetting Space & Snafu head honcho Darryl. BEATS FOR CULL AT MARCUS WARD AND BELFAST UNDERGROUND

Sunday 4th Aug 2019 will see a host of Belfast's finest DJ's take to the decks of The Marcus Ward for a night of top drawer tune selection and celebration of the life of Michael "Cull" Cullen.

On the lead up to the event, Belfast Underground shall be hosting 3 DJ shows from some of the headline artists on the bill. Further details to come early next week.

Michael Cullen tragically took his own life in January 2018, aged just 33. His talent and good spirit touched the hearts of a vast community of music and arts lovers across Ireland, he is sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Sasha’s Fabric set brought to an abrupt halt

Clubbers from all over the world who had travelled to London's Fabric to see the legendary DJ Sasha play at the weekend were all of a sudden left in complete darkness during the middle of the progressive house godfather's set.

The sound of his banging percussive grooves which were rocking the club to its core at the time were dramatically stopped in their tracks as a power cut wiped out the entire building of its electricity. Luckily the emergency lighting was adequate to allow the patrons to leave the building safely.

In Sasha's own words..

"So gutted about the gig on Saturday fabriclondon. It felt like it was possibly going to top last years epic night. The energy in the room was just building and it felt like it was about to go right off when the power cut. Was all a bit surreal as it unfolded. I know everyone at the club tried everything go to get power back but just wasn’t meant to be. Apologies to all that made the trip to be there. I heard people had flown in from all over the place including a couple from Brazil which made it all the more frustrating and disappointing. In discussions with my friends at Fabric about how we can make it up."

ONE HALF OF CASSIUS DIES IN TRAGIC ACCIDENT

Philippe Cerboneschi (also known as "Zdar"), one half of massive French dance duo Cassius, died in Paris on Wednesday.

He made an accidental fall, through the window of a high floor of a building," said Sebastien Farran his agent. Cerboneschi formed Cassius with Hubert Blanc-Francard (aka Boom Bass) in 1996 and they produced for bands such as Phoenix, Beastie Boys, Franz Ferdinand and French hip hop star MC Solaar.

The duo's first album in three years, Dreems, is due to be released on Friday.

DO YOU REMEMBER A TIME WHEN MUSIC LIFE WAS THIS SIMPLE?

Oh how I miss the days when life seemed so easy and everything felt fresh and exciting, a time when music life was simple.

My first entry into the world of music recording was sitting in front of the telly, eating sugar puffs and holding this exact model of cassette recorder out in front of me, right up to the TV speakers, whilst pressing play and record together at the same time in order to tape Blondie on Top Of The Pops. It was a skilled operation carefully trying to time the pressing of the stop button to finish the recording just before the crowd cheered and Dave Lee Travis thanked the group at the end of the song.
I never truly mastered it 100% but I just remember the feeling of pride that each of those recordings gave me when listening back to them, knowing that I had created unique snapshots of time that were personal to me (and each friend and family member who I tortured with them)

I also used that tape recorder to record myself singing (badly) along to some of our family favourites such as Boney M, Glen Campbell, The Beatles, ABBA and any of the hundreds of records that got major rotation in our living room.

"I never for one second imagined that I’d still be doing the same thing, 40 years on"

The basics remain the same, whether you use a £5 cassette recorder, a £30 pair of turntables, or a million pound facility. Talent is talent regardless of the system you use to get yourself heard. It’s about taking the plunge and doing it. If you can sing, play an instrument, DJ, Rap or have any musical talent, get yourself recorded today, upload it online and send it to someone. If someone clicks the thumbs down button on YouTube, that’s their own personal insecurities showing through and is not a reflection on you. Fuck them.

If you don’t feel you’re good enough, practice some more, watch YouTube tutorial videos, develop your skill..but most importantly.. keep at it.

Not everyone is going to be Beyoncé, Snoop Dogg or David Guetta, but we all have the power to make a tiny little impact on the world with what talent we have.

PRODIGY FRONT MAN DIES

The Prodigy frontman Keith Flint has died, aged 49. The band who shaped a generation of ravers from all around the world and who fronted massive tunes such as Firestarter, Breathe and Out Of Space, was found this morning at his home in Essex.

The band said in a statement: "It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint.
