This is an album that could have only ever been written by the French.
Justice’s self titled first album has attitude in truckloads. Anyone else who attempted writing this kind of music at the time risked falling by the wayside miserably.
This is a sound that I love so much and the French excel at. This production masterpiece features the craziest digital distortion, stripped back (but filthy) chords throughout its entirety and just that distinct sound that is so native to their land. The guys are renowned for their use of hundreds of clips from other artists work, twisted, filtered, reversed and crunched into such obscurity that they very rarely require sample clearance.
That to me is one of the many genius aspects of electronic music.
From the sinister opening chords of ‘Genesis’ this album squeezes every last ounce out of the equipment used to produce it.
In 2003 when the Roule and Crydamore record labels stopped releasing, it left a huge hole that Ed Banger records filled and then in 2007 these guys once again brought the French sound into the mainstream. Their subsequent 2 original albums have also stood up 100% against this and we often use them as a benchmark in studio recording sessions.
This debut album Is funky, it’s noisy, it’s fun, it’s moody, it just doesn’t give a fuck what you think of it.
Absolute hands down, 100% classic. Get the BBQ lit and crank this up!

We all have those friends who love their animals more than they love their humans. Spotify have picked up on this and offered their creature loving subscribers the chance to harmonise their moods with that of their furry (or scaly) friends.
So whatever your little pal of choice, dog, cat, bird, iguana or hamster, the worlds most popular music streaming platform can now help you sync yours and your best friend’s favourite beat selections, to enjoy together.
You get to chose from one of five animals before entering its personality traits for the perfectly created list of tunes to keep your pet happy.
At the end of the animal selection process, you are asked to enter your pet's name and then upload a photo for that extra personal touch.
The playlist even includes songs with the name of your pet, which is just another stroke of genius.
We initially rolled out eyes at the idea, wondering if Spotify had finally lost the plot completely, but as we processed the idea and considered the connection between man and beast, the penny began to drop.
One of many firsts for a very forward thinking platform.
Long standing kings of the big electronic beat TheChemical Brothers have only gone and landed themselves the much coveted award for Best Dance Album with their ninth studio LP, 'No Geography' as well as the award for Best Dance Recording with 'Got To Keep On'
The legendary duo of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons also won Grammys in the past. Their crunchy anthem 'Block Rockin Beats' earned them Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1997, 'Galvanize' won Best Dance Recording in 2006 and 'Push The Button' / 'We Are The Night' took Best Dance Albums in '06 and '08.
We are huge fans of the guys and want to congratulate them on yet another amazing year of superior production and live performances.
Paul Woolford under his Special Request alias popped into Belfast Underground Records 06-02-19 and delivered the mother of all guest mixes. Featuring tracks from himself Kenny Larkin, Mall Grab, LFO and many more crammed into 45 minutes of bleeped out bliss.
This man has remained at the top of his game for many many years now and continues to drop tunes that could be described as master classes in modern, accessible electronica.
We love the man and shall hopefully be welcoming Paul back to Belfast sometime in 2020.
Special thanks to the guys at UFO / Limelight Belfast for making this possible.
